2013: A Comic Explosion
As 2013 began, we were thinking of different ways to expand the comic. We decided that we would continue to release 2 new comics a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), and then create a year-long subscription of 4 old comics a week that would last Monday-Thursday. You could technically end up with 6 new comics a week. We also started in April a monthly/bi-monthly 5 panel Sunday comic that proved popular. This is when we took the original 61 comics and redrew them for the subscribers. We created a new character for our island--Tommy, the baby of Dan and Meg. The thought was, they've been married for a while and should have children.
Aesthetically, the comic never looked better. By mid-April, all of our new comics switched over to a new style, making them look sharper and cartoonish. It was during this time that we began using a computer program to colorize the comics. Thus, we ended up with two versions of nearly every comic strip--Black & White, and color. Island Blues never looked so good!
By September, however, it became too draining to release 4 old and 2 new comics a week. So, we announced that we would no longer have a daily subscription. We would release 3 new comics a week, and then one Sunday comic once a month/every other month. During the months of July and August of each year, we would only release two Sunday comics per those months.
These limitations were necessary from making us bite of more than possible, and still give our readers what they desired. Overall, 78 weekly comics were drawn last year. Also, our book, "Island Blues: The Complete Collection Vol. 1" was released in October. Featuring 200 comics, 61 of which were the revised comics, as well as a few anecdotes. You can purchase it on Amazon through our shop.
The following comics are presented in both black and white and color. They are also separated between weekly comics and Sunday Specials. Enjoy!
